Steroids help with symptom management rather than treating the tumour itself. So, you may be given them after diagnosis, or before or after these treatments to reduce the swelling and relieve those symptoms. Concomitant use of aspirin and Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) with corticosteroids increases the risk of gastro-intestinal bleeding and ulceration. The efficacy of coumarin anticoagulants and warfarin may be enhanced by concurrent corticosteroid therapy and close monitoring of the INR or prothrombin time is required to avoid spontaneous bleeding. The desired effects of hypoglycemic agents (including insulin), anti-hypertensives and diuretics are antagonised by corticosteroids.<\/p>\n

\ngiven in a tablet form and often only for short periods. Patients with impaired
\nkidney function may not be able to remove the drug properly from the
\nbody and short courses only should be prescribed.<\/p>\n
